FSU IMPROVES WITH DOUBLEHEADER WINS OVER LADY FALCONS

Raleigh, NC - The Lady Broncos softball team picked up another pair of wins on the road when they faced the Lady Falcons of Saint Augustine's College on Tuesday afternoon from the Walnut Creek Softball Complex. FSU handed Saint Augustine's a 10-1 loss in game one and trampled the Lady Falcons 15-0 in game two of the conference doubleheader.

Game #1 Fayetteville State 10, Saint Augustine's 1

Both teams were scoreless going into the second inning. However, in the second freshman pitcher Alicia Frank reached first base on a passed ball. Then freshman Rahkee Smith took first after being hit by a pitch. The two runners would score unearned runs off a flied out to centerfield by sophomore Bobbi Boucher. The inning came to a close with FSU in front 2-0.

After a three up, three down inning for both teams; the score remained the same heading towards the fourth. At the top of the fourth, Smith hit a double to right field to bring home Frank and senior Aja Sawyer. Smith and senior Shatia Gidrey also scored in the inning to extend the Lady Broncos' lead to six.

The Lady Falcons scored their only run of the contest off a flied out to right field by catcher Genevieve Taylor, which allowed Dominique Brown to cross home plate for an unearned run.

Fayetteville State put up two runs in the sixth and seventh innings and pushed the game out of reach for the Lady Falcons. Smith scored four runs, had two RBIs, and two hits of three at-bats. Boucher was also a solid contributor with 4 RBIs.

Game #2 Fayetteville State 15, Saint Augustine's 0 (five innings)

The Lady Broncos set the bar high early in the second contest. Fayetteville State tallied eight runs in the first inning off seven hits. Saint Augustine's could never crack through the FSU defense to put a run on the scoreboard.

Pitcher Alicia Frank was credited with her 13th victory of the season, after pitching her fourth game in two days. The Lady Broncos blanked Saint Augustine's 15-0 in five innings. Franks faced 19 batters, only giving up two hits and striking out three.

With the win, Fayetteville State improves to 13-11 overall this season and 10-2 in the CIAA. FSU currently has the best conference record in the Western Division, one game ahead of Johnson C. Smith University.

The team's next opponent will be the Lady Golden Bulls of JCSU on Thursday, April 10th. JCSU is holding on a 9-3 record in the CIAA and a perfect 6-0 against Western Division competition. This divisional doubleheader is set to begin at 2pm from Biddleville Park in Charlotte, NC.
