Game #1 Bowie State 4, Fayetteville State 0
In game one, Fayetteville State was unable to find their offense against the hosting Lady Bulldogs. BSU's Tiffany Toney got their first hit of the afternoon in the bottom of the first, stroking a double to left. Toney stole third base and later scored off a single to left field by teammate Heather Enders. A single from Bethany Sloat scored Enders from third but the runner was thrown out at the plate and the inning ended with Bowie State up 2-0.
Toney belted a solo homerun in the 5th inning to push the Bowie State lead to 3-0 and the Lady Bulldogs added their final run in the 6th inning when Sloat scored after smacking a double to center field to lead off the inning.
Sophomore DeOndra Peterson and senior Shatia Gidrey led FSU in hits for game one with two each.
Freshman pitcher Alicia Frank allowed nine Bowie State hits, struck out three, and walked one. Bowie State's pitcher Jillian Willey (4-3) struck out 11 in the first game and gave up seven hits.
Game #2 Bowie State 14, Fayetteville State 3 (5 innings)
Pitcher's fatigue appeared to be the factor in game two. Franks was pitching her fourth game in two days and it showed in this match-up. Franks gave up 13 hits and did not strike out a batter on the evening. Bowie State got off to a fast start with four hits in the 1st inning, which resulted into an early 4-0 lead. The Lady Bulldogs added a pair of runs in the second and third innings to extend their advantage to 8-0.
Sophomore Donieca Ebron opened the top of the fourth inning with a double to right center for the Lady Broncos. Freshman shortstop Rahkee Smith doubled in the inning as well, scoring Ebron. Senior Aja Sawyer singled down the left field line, scoring Smith.
Bowie State added another six runs in the bottom of the 4th inning off five hits; including a solo homer.
The Lady Broncos added their final run in the top of inning five when Gidrey scored on a wild pitch. However, the damage was already done as Enders tagged Peterson to close out the nightcap.
Fayetteville State will get a brief break before heading to Raleigh, NC to take on Shaw University on Friday, April 4th. The conference doubleheader is set to begin at 3 pm.
