TROJANS EARN A PAIR OF VICTORIES OVER FAYETTEVILLE STATE

Mount Olive, NC - The Fayetteville State University women's softball team loss a pair of games on the road against the Trojans of Mount Olive College in a double header Tuesday evening at Nancy Chapman Cassell Field. FSU dropped game one 10-1 and were held scoreless in game two 8-0.

In the first contest, Fayetteville State (2-4) took an early lead when senior Shatia Gidrey hit an opposite-field home run over the left-center field fence with two outs in the top of the first inning. Mount Olive (11-8) capitalized on a pair of errors to overcome the early deficit with two runs in the bottom of the first.

The Lady Broncos were unable to get their offensive wheel spinning. Trojans' pitcher Anna Turvin tossed a one-hitter and Jenny Jackson drove in four runs. Shortstop Kelly Minshew's two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the fifth closed out the win as Mount Olive defeated Fayetteville State 10-1 in game one.

In the nightcap, Mount Olive broke a scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third as the Trojans put two runners in scoring position after an errant throw on a force attempt at second on a bunt.

Jenny Jackson followed with a one-hitter of her own in the nightcap and freshman Aubrey Reinhard belted a home run to lead the Trojans to an 8-0 victory.

Fayetteville State got its only hit in the top of the second when freshman pitcher Alicia Frank led off with a single up the middle. Frank pitched both games before giving way in the fifth inning of the nightcap.

Lady Bronco freshman third baseman Demarius Pankey may have turned in the play of the day in the second inning, snaring a laser just above the ground and doubling up the Trojan runner on first.

Fayetteville State returns to action Wednesday, March 12th as the Lady Broncos travel to Rocky Mount, NC to play North Carolina Wesleyan College in a non-conference doubleheader. Game time is scheduled for 2 pm at Edge Field.
