Fayetteville, NC - The Fayetteville State University women's softball team loss two games Sunday afternoon in a double header against the Pacers of Peace College at the Leonard R. Sanders Field (Seabrook Park). The Lady Broncos were shutout in the first game 4-0 and Peace won the second contest 7-5.
In the first game, FSU gave up three runs in the opening inning. However, Peace did not earn another run until the seventh and final inning. The Lady Broncos were unable to mount any offense and were held scoreless to drop to 2-1 in the standings.
Fayetteville State brought some firepower to the second game. In the bottom of the first inning, senior Aja Sawyer hit a double past the shortstop bringing home junior Dominique Mills for a RBI. Sawyer would advance to third on the throw and score on a sacrifice fly by freshman Demarius Pankey. The score put FSU up 2-1 and gave them their first lead of the day.
Peace had three hits and three runs in the second inning for a 4-2 advantage. The Lady Broncos added two more runs to their total in the third. Mills stole home plate and freshman pitcher Alicia Frank hit a double to center field which brought home Pankey. Going into the fifth inning, Peace was ahead 6-4. Both teams scored one final run in the fifth to account for the 7-5 final score.
FSU falls to 2-2 overall this season with the losses to Peace. The Lady Broncos prepare to climb above .500 when they travel to Mount Olive, NC to face the Trojans of Mount Olive College in a double header match-up. The first contest is scheduled to begin at 4 pm on Tuesday, March 11th.
