The Lady Broncos did everything right in their first game against the Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University and ended a 19-game losing streak, winning the first game of their doubleheader 6-5 in eight innings.
In game one, FSU took an early lead in the first inning and held the lead until the top of the seventh. With the bases loaded, Bronco's Shatia Gidrey walked Santan Smith sending Jenni Rosado home. Gridrey struck out Whitt Barnes tying the game at 4-4 and sending the game into extra innings.
JCSU scored in the half of the eight, putting the Golden Bulls up 5-4. The Lady Broncos retired the side on a pop fly to left field and a pop fly to third base. Under international rules, the Lady Broncos placed Erica Jester on second. Sade Morris was sent in as a runner for Jester. KaShawn Murray grounded out to the pitcher and Morris advanced to third. Yvonne Alvarez walked, stole second. Dominique Mills singled to center field, driving in Morris and Alvarez with the winning runs.
The second game belonged to Smith. The Lady Golden Bulls scored 17 runs on 17 hits as they rolled past the Lady Broncos 17-5. FSU did not help their cause as they committed eight errors and five hits.
FSU is now 1-19 for the season and 1-5 in conference action. Smith departed 6-12 for the season and 6-6 CIAA.
