Lady Broncos struggling to grasp their first victory of the season

LADY BRONCOS DROP TWO DECISIONS TO DARLINGTON TECH

The Fayetteville State University Lady Broncos scored three runs in the fourth inning of the first game in their double header with Darlington Tech, but could not overcome the nine run deficit and dropped an 11-4 decision for their ninth loss of the 2007 season.

The fourth inning started good for the Lady Broncos. Ariel McNair reached first base on four balls. McNair was followed by DeOndra Peterson, who put an end to Darlington's pitcher, Shannon Mitchell hopes of a no-hitter when she singled down third base line. Shatia Gidrey's triple to left center field scored McNair and Peterson. A sacrifice hit by Donieca Ebron scored Gidrey.

The Lady Broncos final score came in the fifth inning. Aja Sawyer reached first on a throwing error by Darlington's shortstop, Kayla Munnerlyn. Sawyer advanced to second on another throwing error. McNair had a sacrifice hit down the first base line which scored Sawyer.

The Lady Broncos appeared to have carried some good fortunate into their second contest of the day. In the bottom of the first inning, Ariel McNair reached first on a walk. Erica Jester automatically advanced to first base after being hit by a pitch. DeOndra Peterson singled over second base, advancing both runners. Shatia Gidrey reached base on a throwing error by the third baseman. Three throwing errors by the Lady Slingers' infield allowed all runners to score, giving the Lady Broncos a 3-0 lead (their first lead over an opponent for the season).

The inning ended when Aja Sawyer grounded out. The Lady Broncos final score of the evening would come in the second inning. LaToya Brown struck out, followed by a double to left center by McNair. Jester grounded out advancing McNair to third. Peterson's RBI single scored McNair. Peterson stole second and Gidrey grounded out to end the inning and their scoring.

The Lady Broncos are currently 0-10 for the season, while the Lady Slingers improve to 18-16. DeOndra Peterson was 3-for-7 at the plate, driving in one run and scoring twice.
