Destiny Washington enters her senior season with the Fayetteville State University volleyball program as a versatile outside hitter and defensive specialist who brings leadership, championship experience, and a relentless work ethic to the Broncos. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Washington has established herself as a competitor who leads by example both on and off the court.
Washington transferred to Fayetteville State from Life University, where she served as a team captain during the 2024-25 season. She quickly embraced the Broncos' championship culture and played a role in helping Fayetteville State capture the 2025 CIAA Volleyball Championship. Her leadership qualities were recognized once again when she was selected as a team captain for the Broncos during the 2025-26 season.
Before beginning her collegiate career, Washington starred at Discovery High School, where she earned Discovery High School Player of the Year honors in 2022. She was a two-time First Team All-Region selection (2021, 2022) and a two-time Second Team All-County performer (2021, 2022). In addition to volleyball, she competed in varsity cheerleading and track and field.
A Biology major with a minor in Athletic Training, Washington plans to pursue a master's degree in athletic training at the University of Georgia before beginning a career that combines her passion for sports medicine and coaching volleyball.
Washington chose Fayetteville State because of the welcoming atmosphere she experienced upon arriving on campus and the opportunity to be part of a championship-caliber program. She credits the Broncos' culture for challenging student-athletes to strive for excellence every day while surrounding them with teammates who encourage growth and accountability.
One of the defining moments of Washington's athletic journey came in 2025 when she helped Fayetteville State win the CIAA Volleyball Championship. That achievement was especially meaningful after overcoming one of the most difficult periods of her career. In 2024, she faced mental challenges that caused her to lose her passion for volleyball, but through perseverance, faith, and determination, she rediscovered her love for the game and emerged stronger both as an athlete and as a person.
A woman of faith, Washington prepares for competition by listening to gospel music, journaling, praying, and reflecting on the song "Awesome God" on game days. Her motivation stems from a desire to become the best version of herself every day, both on and off the court.
Away from athletics, Washington enjoys painting and hiking. She credits her sisters for inspiring her love of volleyball and admires the discipline and work ethic demonstrated by Kobe Bryant, whose approach to excellence helped shape her own mindset toward achieving goals.
Washington is equally committed to serving others. She has coached AAU volleyball since the age of 18 and currently gives back to her community by coaching young athletes through Evolution Volleyball Club. Her passion for mentorship reflects her belief in helping the next generation develop confidence, discipline, and a love for the game.
