Biography

Romeo Aquino has carved out a reputation as a dynamic forward with a relentless work ethic and a passion for the game that started in his hometown of Newburgh, New York.

Aquino’s basketball journey began at Washingtonville High School, where he quickly emerged as one of the region’s top talents, earning a spot among the Section 9 BCANY All-Star Top 50. But his path to Fayetteville State wasn’t a straight line. After high school, Aquino took his talents to Bluefield State, where he became a force at the junior college level. His time there was nothing short of spectacular.

During the 2021-22 season, Aquino earned NJCAA Division II Second Team All-American honors and was named to the Region XV First Team. He didn’t stop there. The following year, he elevated his game to historic heights, capturing the NJCAA Division II National Player of the Year award in 2022-23. That season also saw him named a First Team All-American, Region XV First Team selection, and NJCAA All-Star Game MVP, while surpassing the coveted 1,000-point career milestone. These accolades cemented Aquino as one of the most decorated players in NJCAA history.

Now a senior at Fayetteville State, Aquino is majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies and has his sights set on a professional basketball career, with aspirations of coaching at the collegiate level in the future. Off the court, he’s just as impressive. A self-proclaimed foodie with a hidden talent for cooking, Aquino enjoys hiking, playing with his dog, and spending time with friends and family. He credits his father, William Aquino, as the most influential person in his life—someone who laid the foundation for his success and instilled the values that drive him today.

Aquino’s favorite basketball memories include competing in the NJCAA Final Four and playing in the CIAA Championship Game, moments that reflect both his competitive spirit and his ability to shine on the biggest stages. When asked why he chose Fayetteville State, Aquino points to the energy, opportunities, and family atmosphere that define the Broncos program.

Beyond basketball, Aquino gives back to the community as a Special Olympics coach, embodying the leadership and character that make him a role model on and off the court.

As the Broncos gear up for another season, keep an eye on Romeo Aquino—a player whose journey from Newburgh to Fayetteville is a testament to hard work, resilience, and the pursuit of greatness.
