Biography

Trent McCord is a versatile defensive back who brings experience, leadership, and playmaking ability to the Fayetteville State football program. A native of Griffin, Georgia, McCord joins the Broncos after competing at Shorter University, where he established himself as one of the team's top defensive performers.

During the 2024-25 season, McCord earned Week 1 Player of the Game honors after recording a team-high 11 tackles against Mississippi College. Known for his physical style of play and football instincts, he has consistently demonstrated the ability to make impactful plays in the secondary.

Prior to his collegiate career, McCord attended Spalding High School, where he excelled in both football and track and field. He was named Team Captain of the Year and earned First Team All-Defense honors while helping lead his program. His leadership qualities continued at the collegiate level, serving as a team captain at Shorter University in 2025 after captaining Spalding High School's football team in 2022.

McCord's passion for football was evident early in his career, with one of his favorite athletic memories being his first career pick-six during his sophomore season in high school. Another memorable milestone came in his first collegiate game, when he led his team with 13 tackles, showcasing the work ethic and determination that have become trademarks of his game.

A junior majoring in Middle Grades Education, McCord has ambitious goals beyond football. He plans to graduate, pursue a professional football career, and eventually become a teacher and coach, combining his love for athletics with a passion for mentoring young people.

Before games, McCord prepares by listening to gospel music, praying, and then transitioning into his game-day playlist. He credits conversations with his mother as one of his biggest sources of motivation and draws inspiration from his brothers, Fabian, Rodney, and Larry, who have had a significant influence on his athletic journey.

Away from the field, McCord enjoys cooking, trying new foods, and expressing his personal style. He chose Fayetteville State because it immediately felt like home and because his mother believed it would be the perfect fit. He appreciates the support and care shown to student-athletes and values the family atmosphere within the Broncos program.

Committed to serving others, McCord has participated in community service projects, including helping build beds for individuals experiencing homelessness. He believes in giving back by setting a positive example and investing in the next generation. His advice to young athletes is simple: "Take care of your body."

As he continues his career at Fayetteville State, McCord looks to make an impact both on the field and in the classroom while helping the Broncos compete for championships.
