A towering offensive lineman, Joseph Johnson joins the Fayetteville State football program after a successful collegiate career that included conference championships and a national title. Standing 6-foot-9 and weighing 300 pounds, Johnson brings experience, size, and leadership to the Broncos' offensive front.
Prior to arriving at Fayetteville State, Johnson competed at South Carolina State, where he was part of back-to-back MEAC Championship teams in 2024 and 2025 and helped the Bulldogs capture the 2025 National Championship. His collegiate journey also included championship experiences at Grand Valley State, where he was a member of the 2022 GLIAC Championship team, and Benedict College, which won the 2023 SIAC Championship.
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Johnson attended Harvest Preparatory School and earned Offensive Lineman of the Year honors in 2022. Throughout his football career, he has been part of multiple championship-winning programs and has developed a reputation for perseverance and hard work.
Off the field, Johnson is majoring in Social Work and plans to earn a master's degree in social work while also obtaining a Class A Commercial Driver's License. He credits former Harvest Preparatory standout Milan Smith as one of his biggest athletic influences.
Johnson's pregame routine includes prayer, while his mental preparation centers on faith and listening to calming music. He draws motivation from overcoming life's hardships and enjoys landscaping in his free time.
Among his most memorable athletic accomplishments are traveling for road games during his previous collegiate stops and winning a national championship. Johnson says he chose Fayetteville State because it was the best opportunity for his future and appreciates the welcoming campus environment. He advises younger athletes to "stay humble and work hard."
In the community, Johnson has participated in Thanksgiving turkey giveaways and church food distribution events, demonstrating his commitment to serving others both on and off the field.
