Markus Lawrence

Markus Lawrence enters the 2026 season as the Offensive Line Coach at Fayetteville State University, bringing extensive Division I and HBCU coaching experience and a strong reputation for developing dominant, fundamentally sound offensive lines.

Lawrence joins the Broncos after successful collegiate coaching stops that include South Carolina State University and Alabama A&M University, where his units consistently ranked among the most productive offenses in the FCS. Most recently, he served as the Offensive Line Coach at South Carolina State, following a standout seven-year tenure at Alabama A&M, where he also held the role of Director of On-Campus Recruiting. At Alabama A&M, Lawrence coached one of the top offensive lines in the SWAC and nationally, helping the Bulldogs become a perennial top-10 program in scoring offense, total offense, and passing efficiency.

During his time in Huntsville, Lawrence played a key role in the development of All-American offensive tackle Carson Vinson, the first HBCU player invited to both the NFL Combine and Reese’s Senior Bowl. His offensive lines helped Alabama A&M lead the conference in time of possession, third-down conversions, and red-zone efficiency while ranking among national leaders in total offense multiple seasons.

Prior to his Division I coaching career, Lawrence built a strong foundation as both a player and coach. He was a four-year offensive lineman at Winston-Salem State University, where he earned two Black College All-America honors, was a multi-time All-CIAA selection, and won the Gene Upshaw Lineman of the Year Award as a senior. Lawrence also helped lead WSSU to the NCAA Division II National Championship Game during his playing career.

As offensive line coach at Fayetteville State, Lawrence is responsible for all aspects of offensive line development, including technique, run-game execution, pass protection, and physical identity in the trenches. Known for his energy, detailed instruction, and player-development approach, he brings a proven blueprint for success as the Broncos prepare for the 2026 season.
