2025 (Redshirt Freshman): Joined the Fayetteville State football program as a defensive back.

High School: Competed in football, basketball, and track & field at East Forsyth High School. Earned All-Conference honors and was named First Team All-Defense in the Central Piedmont Conference (CPC). Helped his team capture a CPC Conference Championship and was a member of a state championship team as a freshman.

Personal: Full name is Cayden Martin and is nicknamed "Kado." Born on Nov. 27, 2005. Son of Natalie Martin and Curtis Royal. Majoring in Business Entrepreneurship and plans to own and operate his own business after graduation. Chose Fayetteville State because of his love for HBCUs and the campus environment. Lists overcoming injury as the biggest challenge of his athletic career. Credits Coach Koonce as his biggest athletic influence. Motivated by those who doubted him and prepares for competition by listening to music. Enjoys horseback riding and bull riding in his spare time. Most memorable sports moments include winning a state championship as a freshman and capturing a CPC Conference Championship in high school. Has participated in community service efforts by providing food to individuals experiencing homelessness and supports local homeless shelters through annual donations. Advises younger athletes to stay focused on their goals and avoid distractions.
