LANCASTER, S.C. – The Fayetteville State men's golf team finished fourth in the team standings following three rounds of competition at Edgewater Golf Club.
The Broncos posted rounds of
291, 295 and 294 to finish with a three-round total of
880. Fayetteville State remained consistent throughout the tournament, with all three team rounds coming in at 295 or better.
Lenoir-Rhyne captured the team title with a total score of
852, firing rounds of 283, 287 and a tournament-best 282 in the final round. Newberry finished second at
872 after rounds of 287, 290 and 295, while Mount Olive placed third with an
875 behind rounds of 293, 289 and 293. Fayetteville State followed five strokes back in fourth at 880.
Sutton Dreier led the Broncos individually with an impressive three-round performance. Dreier carded rounds of
71, 73 and 71 for a
215 total, finishing
1-under par for the tournament and placing
seventh overall. Dreier recorded
nine birdies over the three rounds. He opened the tournament with four birdies on
Nos. 1, 3, 8 and 18, followed with three more during the second round on
Nos. 2, 4 and 12, and closed the tournament with birdies on
Nos. 9 and 17 in the final round. He opened and closed the event with under-par rounds, including a 1-under 71 in the final round.
Patricio Ramirez was the Broncos' next finisher, tying for 14th at
7-over par. Ramirez opened with an even-par 72 before rounds of 76 and 75 to finish with a
223 total.
Allan Terrazas and
Andrew McCarver each finished at
8-over par with 224 totals, tying for 18th. Terrazas improved as the tournament progressed, shooting 77 in the opening round before posting rounds of 74 and 73. McCarver began with back-to-back even-par rounds of 72 before closing with an 80.
Donald Barnett rounded out Fayetteville State's lineup, tying for 25th at
11-over par. Barnett recorded rounds of 76, 76 and 75 for a
227 total.
Fayetteville State will return to the course
Monday, Oct. 5, and Tuesday, Oct. 6, when the Broncos travel to
Salisbury, North Carolina, to compete in the
Richard Rendleman Invitational at the Country Club of Salisbury. The tournament will be hosted by Catawba.
