CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Fayetteville State University men's golf team opened the 2026-27 season with a 14th-place finish at the UC Invitational, hosted by the University of Charleston at Berry Hills Country Club. Competing against a talented NCAA Division II field, the Broncos posted a three-round total of 901 (+61) after rounds of 309, 299, and 293, improving their score in each round of the tournament.
West Chester captured the team title at the UC Invitational with a three-round score of 865 after rounds of 291, 283, and 291. Wheeling finished as the tournament runner-up at 867, posting scores of 273, 301, and 293, while Davis & Elkins placed third with an 868, carding rounds of 288, 283, and 297. The top three teams were separated by just three strokes, making for one of the closest finishes in the field.
Fayetteville State showed steady progress throughout the event, shaving 16 strokes off its opening-round total by the final day. The Broncos recovered from a challenging first round and responded with back-to-back sub-300 performances to close the tournament on a positive note.
Andrew McCarver led the Broncos with a three-round score of 222 (+12), finishing tied for 36th overall. After opening with an 80, McCarver rebounded with back-to-back rounds of 71 and 71 to close the tournament. He recorded a team-high nine birdies over the 54-hole event, tallying two birdies in the opening round, five in round two, and two more in the final round. His second-round performance sparked Fayetteville State's turnaround, while his final-round 71 helped the Broncos post their lowest team score of the tournament.
Donald Barnett finished second on the team with a 224 (+14). Barnett paced the Broncos in the opening round with a 71 before adding rounds of 79 and 74 to place tied for 54th individually.
Allan Terrazas rounded out the team's top three performers, carding a 229 (+19). After an opening-round 79, Terrazas improved with a 74 in the second round before closing with a 76.
Sutton Dreier finished at 230 (+20) after rounds of 83, 75, and 72, while Patricio Ramirez posted a 234 (+24) with scores of 79, 79, and 76.
The Broncos' best team round came on the final day when they fired a 293 (+13) behind strong efforts from McCarver (71), Dreier (72), and Barnett (74). The final-round performance highlighted the team's resilience and ability to adjust to the challenging Berry Hills layout as the tournament progressed.
