Wingate, N.C. — Fayetteville State's cross country teams turned in competitive performances at the Bulldog Stampede on Saturday, hosted by Wingate University, with the men finishing fourth and the women placing sixth in a deep field of regional contenders.
In the men's 7K race, sophomore Brian Kiprop led the Broncos with a third-place finish in 21:47.14, just four seconds behind the individual winner, Anderson's Spain Vaughan. Kiprop's strong effort helped Fayetteville State secure a fourth-place team finish with 111 points, supported by fellow sophomore Franklin Kipchirchir (4th, 21:50.30), Dominic Malel (18th, 22:38.21), Ian Kiprono (40th, 23:21.28), and Rowny Kipchirchir (65th, 24:08.01).
Anderson (S.C.) won the men's team title with 30 points, followed by Catawba (43) and Wingate (93).
On the women's side, freshman Faith Kiplimo continued her breakout season with a seventh-place finish in the 6,K, clocking 22:23.47. She was Fayetteville State's top scorer, followed by Videlma Jebet (14th, 23:16.66), Pelisha Kosgei (38th, 24:23.99), Nia Gibson (52nd, 25:10.41), and Brenda Cheboi (54th, 25:11.70). The Broncos totaled 153 points, placing sixth overall.
Catawba claimed the women's team title with 32 points, followed by Wingate (44) and Anderson (S.C.) (107).
Fayetteville State returns to action on Friday, October 3rd at the Cedric Walker HBCU XC Challenge, held at the WakeMed Soccer Park Cross Country Course in Cary, N.C.
