FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- The Fayetteville State Broncos extended their winning streak to 10 games with a commanding 73-56 victory over the Winston-Salem State Rams on Thursday night. The Broncos' defense was the star of the show, holding the Rams to a mere 12.5 percent from beyond the arc.
Leading the charge for Fayetteville State (19-6, 11-3 CIAA) was Tairell Fletcher, who poured in 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Myles Pierre provided a spark off the bench with 14 points and five assists, while Ezekiel Cannedy added 12 points, including four three-pointers.
Anthony Latty, coming off the bench, emphasized his role in the team's success: "I do whatever I can, get second chance opportunities, rebounds, blocked shots, the little things."
Head Coach Luke D'Alession praised his team's depth and discipline: "We are on a mission. We have a good team with disciplined players. We have a lot of different guys that can step up so we don't have to rely on one player."
Winston-Salem State (2-21,0-14 CIAA) struggled to find their rhythm, shooting just 35.7 percent from the field. Tyre Boykin led the Rams with 18 points, while Jeremy Dixon contributed 12 points and eight rebounds.
The Broncos' defense was relentless, forcing seven turnovers in the first half and converting them into 12 points. Fayetteville State's 18-0 run in the first half set the tone for the game, giving them a 40-24 lead at halftime.
Despite a late push from the Rams, the Broncos maintained their composure and secured the win, thanks in part to their impressive three-point shooting and dominance on the boards. Caleb Simmons led the rebounding effort with 12 boards.
Fayetteville State will look to continue their winning streak as they head to Salisbury, NC to play Livingstone on February 15th at 7:30 PM. Follow the action on fsubroncos.com/gameday.
