The Broncos also dominated the boards, out-rebounding Virginia Union 31-30, with Ashara Hayes leading the way with nine rebounds.

The game started with Fayetteville State taking a 16-11 lead by the end of the first quarter, thanks to their strong play in the paint, where they scored 12 of their 16 points. The Broncos extended their lead to 22-15 in the second quarter before going on a 9-0 run, highlighted by a basket from McLaughlin, to push the lead to 31-15. Despite a push from the Panthers, Fayetteville State maintained a 33-22 advantage at halftime, continuing their dominance in the paint with 12 of their 17 second-quarter points coming from close range.

In the third quarter, Fayetteville State preserved their lead and went on a 5-0 run, capped by a basket from Trotter, to extend their lead to 51-36. The Broncos continued to excel near the basket, scoring 10 of their 18 third-quarter points in the paint.
