Fayetteville State Falls to Livingstone 68-66 in Thrilling Overtime

FAYETTEVILLE, NC – In a thrilling contest at Capel Arena, Fayetteville State suffered a heartbreaking 66-68 overtime loss to Livingstone on January 28, 2025. The game was filled with drama, as both teams exchanged leads 15 times and tied the score on 13 occasions. The Broncos now have a 12-7 overall record and a 7-3 record in the CIAA, while Livingstone improves to 6-12 overall and 4-4 in the CIAA.
 
Talia Trotter led Fayetteville State with 13 points and scored in critical moments. Morgan Graham made a notable contribution by grabbing 15 rebounds and scoring 8 points. KaNyah O'Neal added 16 points and 9 rebounds off the bench, while Nyah Wilkins contributed 10 points and 6 rebounds, providing a strong presence in the paint.
 
Fayetteville State started strong, outscoring Livingstone 18-10 in the first quarter. However, Livingstone made a comeback in the second quarter, narrowing the gap to 31-29 by halftime.
 
The third quarter was a fierce battle, with the Broncos maintaining a slight edge, leading 45-42 heading into the final quarter. Livingstone's resilience surfaced in the fourth quarter, where they tied the game at 57-57, forcing overtime.
 
During the extra period, Livingstone managed to outscore Fayetteville State 11-9, securing a narrow victory.
 
Thalia Carter led Livingstone with 17 points, while Morgan Kelson recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Although Fayetteville State had 24 opportunities at the free-throw line, they only converted 14 attempts (58.3%) and missed crucial shots, especially in such a tight contest. The Broncos committed 13 turnovers, which Livingstone capitalized on, scoring 12 points from those mistakes. Key plays and clutch free throws by the Blue Bears in the final minutes of overtime made the difference.
