ORANGEBURG, S.C.(Edward L. Tullis Arena) -- Ezekiel Cannedy knocked down a buzzer-beating 3-pointer as time expired to lead the Fayetteville State men's basketball team past the Claflin Panthers 67-66 on the road Saturday. The Broncos, now 13-6 overall and 6-3 in the CIAA, had four players score in double figures, led by Cannedy, who had 16 points. Myles Pierre added 15 points from the bench, and Caleb Simmons contributed 15 points and nine rebounds.

Claflin's top player, Zion Obanla, led all scorers with 20 points, shooting 8-11 from the field, 1-3 from three-point range, and 3-4 from the free-throw line. He also contributed two rebounds, five assists, and one block in the game.

The Fayetteville State offense was effective from three-point range, making eight threes on 21 attempts, with Cannedy hitting four of them. After falling behind 15-14, Fayetteville State went on a 5-0 run with 8:23 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Pierre, to take a 19-15 lead. The Broncos then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 29-25.

Claflin, now 11-8 overall and 5-4 in the CIAA, kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 61-53 advantage before Fayetteville State went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Cannedy's three, to shrink the deficit to 61-60 with 1:31 to go in the contest. Claflin's Jaelin Williams drove straight through the lane to hit a layup with 4.5 seconds on the clock, giving Claflin a 66-64 lead over the Broncos. However, Fayetteville State kept their composure and took the game on Cannedy's three-pointer with 00:00 left for a 67-66 comeback victory.
