RALEIGH, NC -- The Fayetteville State Broncos clinched an 80-70 victory over the Shaw Bears on the road Thursday, thanks to a stellar 66.7% shooting performance from three-point range. The Broncos never trailed in the game, showcasing their dominance from start to finish. This win improves Fayetteville State's record to 11-6 overall and 4-3 in the CIAA, while Shaw falls to 8-9 overall and 3-2 in the CIAA.
Tairell Fletcher led Fayetteville State with 24 points and 8 assists, while Ezekiel Cannedy added 17 points. Myles Pierre contributed 10 points off the bench, and Mysta Goodloe pulled down 11 rebounds, including 4 offensive boards.
For Shaw, Trent McIntyre scored 23 points and grabbed 4 rebounds, and Elijah Scranton chipped in with 11 points and 6 rebounds.
Fayetteville State jumped out to an early lead, going on a 7-0 run to make it 13-4 with 11:40 left in the first half. The Broncos extended their lead to 36-23 by halftime, thanks to their sharp three-point shooting. In the second half, Fayetteville State maintained their lead, going on a 6-0 run to push the score to 66-52 with 7:18 remaining. Shaw made a late push but couldn't close the gap, resulting in an 80-70 win for Fayetteville State.
The Broncos were exceptional from beyond the arc, hitting 10 of 15 three-point attempts. They dominated the boards, out-rebounding Shaw 42-27. Fayetteville State's defense held Shaw to just 20% shooting from three-point range. The Broncos capitalized on their offensive rebounds, scoring 14 second-chance points.
