Broncos Suffer 3-0 Defeat in Tough Match Against Shaw

RALEIGH, NC -- The Fayetteville State volleyball team faced a challenging match on the road, falling to the Shaw Bears in three sets (26-28, 14-25, 19-25) at C.C. Spalding Gymnasium on Thursday. This defeat brings Fayetteville State's record to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in CIAA play. Shaw is now 6-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

Jourdan Page led the Broncos' offensive efforts with 11 kills and three aces, showcasing her versatility and skill. On the defensive side, Jasmine Culp was a standout, recording a match-high 16 digs to keep the team in contention. Chiara Vittoni also made significant contributions with a team-high 14 assists, facilitating the Broncos' attack.

Talia Emmen led the offensive charge for Shaw with 15 kills and a .414 hitting percentage. Maelie Chupin also made a notable impact with 6 kills and a .429 hitting percentage, while Khamare Steppe added 6 kills with a .400 hitting percentage. On the defensive end, Kalia Morris was a key player, recording 12 digs. Manuela Cripa Nasser tallied 36 assists and added 4 service aces. 

In the first set, the Broncos battled fiercely in a back-and-forth contest that featured five lead changes and nine ties. Despite their efforts, they narrowly lost the set 28-26. The second set saw Shaw taking control early, and Fayetteville State struggled to keep up, eventually losing 25-14. The third set was another hard-fought battle, but the Broncos couldn't overcome Shaw's momentum, falling 25-19.

The Broncos will take another road trip to Charlotte, NC to play Johnson C. Smith on September 25th at 6 PM in Brayboy Gymnasium.
