Donald Barnett, a sports management major from Antioch, IL, was announced as one of the members of the 2023-24 All-Freshmen Team by the Black College Golf Coaches Association (BCGCA).
The Black College Golf Coaches Association and Golf Coaches Association of America partnered to present the third annual BCGCA Awards. The awards highlight black college golfers from all divisions of college golf. Awards include the Adrian Stills Award (Black College Golfer of the Year), HBCU Golfer of the Year, BCGCA All-America Team, BCGCA and HBCU Outstanding Freshmen of the Year, BCGCA All-Freshmen Team, and BCGCA and HBCU Coaches of the Year.
The BCGCA announced the award winners this past Monday, August 19.
Barnett's contributions include the Davis & Elkins' Dr. Wally Edgell Invitational in September 2023, where he contributed an even 216 card and finished tied at 36th. He opened with a 74 in the opening round and improved in the second with a 70 after five birdies. Barnett's only hole under par in the third round was an eagle on the third hole. He finished the final round with a 72.
At the Rendleman Invitational in October of 2023, Barnett contributed to a 2nd place team win with a 3-round overall score of 235. At the CIAA Championship in April of 2024, Barnett shot a two-round total of 148 (+4), contributing to leading the Broncos to the final round of the championship.
