MORROW, GA -- The Fayetteville State women's basketball team secured an impressive 81-62 victory over the Clayton State Lakers on the road Saturday. This win brought the Broncos to a 3-3 record for the season, while the Lakers fell to 2-4.
Despite the loss, Clayton State's leading player, Kyla Greene, had a notable performance. Greene scored 12 points, shooting 4 of 9 from the field, including 3 of 7 from three-point range, and added three rebounds.
Fayetteville State's bench was a key factor, contributing 46 points. Talia Trotter led the Broncos with 18 points, four assists, and two steals. Nyah Wilkins added a double-double off the bench with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Daziyahna Wilson chipped in 11 points.
The Broncos showcased excellent ball movement, recording 17 assists on 30 made field goals. Trotter led with four assists, while Amina Miles added three. Defensively, Fayetteville State forced 24 turnovers, converting them into 24 points. Wilkins led the defensive effort with five steals.
Fayetteville State started strong, leading 22-18 after the first quarter, with 18 of those points coming from the paint. They maintained their lead through the second quarter, going on a 6-0 run to extend their advantage to 34-26. The Lakers managed to cut the lead, but the Broncos still held a 36-32 edge at halftime.
In the third quarter, Fayetteville State continued to build on their lead, going on another 6-0 run to make it 50-43. By the end of the third, they led 58-47, with 12 of their 22 points coming from the paint. The Broncos kept up the pressure in the fourth quarter, extending their lead to 66-50 with a 6-0 run and eventually cruising to an 81-62 victory.
Nyah Wilkins recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Broncos shot 6 of 13 from three-point range. Fayetteville State's bench scored 46 points. The Broncos had a 41-27 rebounding advantage. Fayetteville State forced 24 turnovers and grabbed 17 offensive rebounds. Talia Trotter led all scorers with 18 points. Nyah Wilkins had a game-high 11 rebounds.
