Broncos drop 3-2 match to Bluefield State

PETERSBURG, VA --The Fayetteville State volleyball team lost 3-2 (23-25, 25-13, 25-23, 17-25, 13-15) to the Bluefield State Lady Blues Saturday at the VSU Multipurpose Center.

The loss dropped Fayetteville State's record to 12-4 overall and 8-4 in CIAA action, while Bluefield moved to 11-15 overall and 8-2 in the conference.

The Broncos were led by a double-double from Symone Morris, who registered 12 kills and 21 digs on the day. Jourdan Page also added 14 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Jasmine Culp chipped in for with 28 digs to go with five blocks from Milana Cvetkovski.

Fayetteville State showcased a strong offensive performance with three players reaching double figures in kills. Symone Morris led the team with four aces and achieved a double-double, recording 12 kills and 21 digs. Jourdan Page also made a significant impact with a team-high 14 kills. On the defensive side, Jasmine Culp contributed a team-high 28 digs, while Chiara Vittoni facilitated the attackers with a team-high 29 assists. Despite their efforts, the team fell short in the match, but their individual performances were noteworthy.

In the first set, the Broncos put up a strong offensive performance with a .323 attack percentage and 13 kills, but ultimately fell short, losing 25-23. Fayetteville State bounced back in the second set, securing a dominant 25-13 victory. They took an early lead at 3-2 and never looked back, extending their advantage to 12 points by the end. The Broncos' offense was bolstered by four aces, and their defense shone with five blocks.

Building on their momentum, Fayetteville State claimed the third set 25-23 in a closely contested battle that saw six lead changes and seven ties. The Broncos amassed 18 kills in this set, showcasing their offensive depth. However, the fourth set saw the Lady Blues rally to force a decisive fifth set with a 25-17 win. Despite the Broncos' efforts, they couldn't recover from an 11-10 deficit, and the set was tied only once before Bluefield State took control.

In the final set, Fayetteville State fought hard but ultimately lost 15-13. The Broncos were neck and neck with Bluefield State, holding the lead at 13-13 before the Lady Blues rallied to clinch the victory. Despite the loss, Fayetteville State's resilience and competitive spirit were evident throughout the match.
