Broncos earn 3-set sweep over Elizabeth City State

PETERSBURG, VA --The Fayetteville State volleyball team walked away with a 3-0 victory (30-28, 25-22, 25-22) over the Elizabeth City State Vikings Sunday at the VSU  Multipurpose Center.

The win moved the Broncos' record to 13-4 overall and 9-4 in CIAA action, but the Vikings fall to 8-15 overall and 7-4 in the conference.

The Broncos were led by a double-double from Jourdan Page, who registered 10 kills and 17 digs on the day. Chiara Vittoni also added nine kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Jasmine Culp chipped in for the Broncos with 27 digs to go with four blocks from Milana Cvetkovski.

Fayetteville State's defensive efforts were highlighted by three players reaching double figures in digs. Chiara Vittoni led the team with two aces in the win, while Jourdan Page registered a double-double, contributing 10 kills and 17 digs. The team's serving was also strong, with six aces helping secure a third-set victory. Jourdan Page topped the team with 10 kills, and Jasmine Culp made a significant defensive contribution with a match-high 27 digs. Additionally, Chiara Vittoni facilitated the attackers with a match-high 23 assists.

In the first set, the Broncos endured a back-and-forth battle to secure a 30-28 win in a stanza that featured nine lead changes and was tied 23 times. Neither team led by more than three points throughout the set. Fayetteville State's opening set victory was driven by 17 kills out of their 30 points, supplemented by three aces.

Building on their momentum, Fayetteville State earned a 25-22 victory in the second set. The Broncos showcased a solid attacking performance with a .302 attack percentage and 16 kills. They rallied from a six-point deficit at 18-12 to secure the win. Defensively, the front row was strong, blocking four Elizabeth City State attacks.

Fayetteville State completed the match with a 3-0 sweep by winning the third set 25-22. Strong serving played a crucial role, with the Broncos recording six aces. After the lead changed hands twice, Fayetteville State took control at 23-22 and maintained their advantage to clinch the victory. The offense was further boosted by six aces in this final stanza.

The Broncos will head to Orangeburg, SC on Thursday, October 31st to take on Clafin at 6:00 PM.
