"We turned the ball over six times," said Head Coach Richard Hayes! "The difference in the game was six points. We threw a pick-six. We had four interceptions. We had two fumbles. You won't beat anybody like that, especially in this conference. It was a tough day for us."
Both teams traded field goals in the first quarter, with FSU's
John Hernandez-Vargas and LC's Jason Zapata converting for their respective teams. Livingstone took the lead in the second quarter with a touchdown pass from Alston to Deloatch, followed by a Fayetteville State touchdown run by
Syheam McQueen to tie the game. However, Livingstone quickly responded with an interception return for a touchdown by Reeder, ending the half at 17-10.
In the third quarter, Livingstone extended their lead with a rushing touchdown by Alston. Fayetteville State fought back in the fourth quarter with a long touchdown pass from
Demari Daniels to
Mali Harris-Strayhorn, narrowing the gap to 24-17. In the final moments, Fayetteville State managed to score a safety, but it wasn't enough to overcome Livingstone's lead.
The quarterbacks for Fayetteville State had a mixed performance in the game.
Joe Owens Jr. completed 12 of 25 passes for 93 yards but struggled with accuracy, throwing two interceptions and no touchdowns, resulting in a QBR of 63.2. His longest completion was 17 yards, and he was sacked three times, indicating pressure from the opposing defense. On the other hand,
Demari Daniels, despite limited attempts, made a significant impact with a QBR of 165.7. He completed 3 of 6 passes for 91 yards, including a crucial 67-yard touchdown pass. However, he also threw two interceptions and was sacked twice.
