FAYETTEVILLE, NC --Tairell Fletcher hit a buzzer-beating shot with only three seconds left on the clock to lead the Fayetteville State men's basketball team past the Lincoln (PA) Lions 53-52 at home Saturday.
Fletcher led the Broncos (8-7, 3-2) with 16 points. Caleb Simmons added nine points and six rebounds and Kaleb Coleman chipped in as well with nine points and seven rebounds.
The Lions (7-8, 3-2) leading scorer, Janaie Coates-Sinues, led the team with 12 points.
Fayetteville State out-rebounded Lincoln (PA) 38-33 in Saturday's game, paced by nine boards from Sean Tony Hauser. The Broncos also collected 10 offensive rebounds and scored nine second chance points.
Fayetteville State's defense held Lincoln (PA) to only 35.2 percent shooting from the field, including 25 percent from beyond the arc. The Lions did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with eight offensive rebounds and managed 12 second chance points while Fayetteville State cleared 28 defensive rebounds.
How It Happened
After falling behind 6-4, Fayetteville State went on an 11-0 run with 16:15 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Myles Pierre, to take a 15-6 lead. The Broncos then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 29-19 advantage. Fayetteville State capitalized on four Lincoln (PA) turnovers in the period, turning them into eight points on the other end of the floor.
The Broncos then held on for the victory in the second half. Fayetteville State took care of business in the paint, recording 12 of its 24 points in the lane.
