FAYETTEVILLE, NC --Kaleb Coleman and Tyler Foster combined to score 29 total points - 60.4 percent of Fayetteville State's points - but the Broncos fell to the Virginia Union Panthers 62-48 at home Thursday.
Coleman led the Broncos (8-8, 3-3) with 19 points and seven rebounds. Foster added 10 points, six rebounds and two steals off the bench and Khalil Ridges chipped in as well with five points.
The Panthers (6-11, 1-5) leading scorer, Johnathan Salazar, led the team with 16 points.
Foster pulled down four offensive rebounds to lead the Fayetteville State offense which grabbed 14 boards and turned them into five second chance points.
Fayetteville State's defense held Virginia Union to only 15.4 percent shooting from beyond the arc. The Panthers did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with four offensive rebounds and managed four second chance points while Fayetteville State cleared 19 defensive rebounds.
How It Happened
Fayetteville State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 32-20 heading into halftime.
Virginia Union kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 56-38 advantage before Fayetteville State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Foster's three, to shrink the deficit to 56-43 with 4:49 to go in the contest. Virginia Union responded and outscored the Broncos the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 62-48. Fayetteville State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting four shots from deep to score 12 of its 28 points.
