Broncos secure 3-set sweep against Elizabeth City State

PETERSBURG, VA --The Fayetteville State volleyball team walked away with a 3-0 sweep (25-22, 25-16, 25-16) over the Elizabeth City State Vikings Saturday at Multipurpose Center.

The victory moved the Broncos' record to 6-10 overall and 3-1 in CIAA play.

The Broncos offense was paced by A'Lexus Everett, who finished with 12 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .476, and by Chiara Vittoni, who had 10 while hitting .389. Defensively, the Broncos had two players reach double figures in digs as Jordan Johnson had 20 and Casandra Watson had 12.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Broncos grabbed control of the set-one lead at 6-5 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-22. Fayetteville State led by six points at 12-6 before closing out the set, totaling 15 kills in the process. Fayetteville State also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | Fayetteville State won set two 25-16 to swiftly grab a 2-0 lead. The Broncos took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to secure the victory. Fayetteville State opened up as much as a 10 point lead at 24-14 before finishing off the set, collecting 15 kills along the way. The Broncos hit .333 over the course of the set.

SET 3 | Fayetteville State finished off the match in a 3-0 sweep after taking the third set. The Broncos took control of the set early when the score was 3-2 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-16. Fayetteville State led by 11 points at 19-8 before finishing off the stanza. The Fayetteville State offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.
