Broncos rack up 10 blocks in 3-0 victory against Virginia State

PETERSBURG, VA --The Fayetteville State volleyball team totaled 10 blocks en route to a three-set win (25-22, 25-23, 27-25) over the Virginia State Trojans Sunday on the road at Multipurpose Center.

The win improved the Broncos' record to 7-10 overall and 4-1 in CIAA play.

The Broncos were led by a double-double from Casandra Watson, who registered 10 kills and 10 digs on the day. Chiara Vittoni also added seven kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Jordan Johnson chipped in 20 digs to go with five blocks from Christina Pratcher.

SET 1 | The Broncos endured a back-and-forth first set to win 25-22 in a stanza that featured five lead changes and was tied 12 times. Neither team led by more than four points in the match.

SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Fayetteville State put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-23 victory in set number two. Pinpoint serving helped the Broncos earn the set-two victory. Fayetteville State totaled five aces in the set win. The Broncos took their first and last lead of the match at 23-22 and rode it to victory. Fayetteville State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking five Virginia State attacks in the stanza.

SET 3 | Fayetteville State then sealed the sweep with a victory in set number three. The Broncos persevered in a back-and-forth set to win 27-25 in a stanza that featured five lead changes and was tied 12 times. Neither team opened up a lead of more than four points along the way.

The Broncos travel to Salisbury, NC for a 6 p.m. match against Livingstone College.
