FSU Men & Women Dominate the Field at Greensboro XC Invitational

Greensboro, NC – Both of Fayetteville State's cross-country programs walked away with victories at the annual Greensboro XC Invitational hosted by Greensboro College at the Hagan Stone Park in Pleasant Garden, NC. The teams defeated St. Augustine's, Winston-Salem State, Livingstone, and Methodist.
 
In the women's 5-kilometer race, FSU runners finished second through sixth for a total of 20 points.  The Broncos also had runners cross in 8th and 10th place. Irene Jeptoo led the effort as she finished second in a personal best time of 19:37. Daisy Jerop also had a PR of 19:47. Nia Gibson broke the 20-minute mark with a fourth-place finish in 19:50. Reline Cheptoo (20:01) and Joan Kiplagat (20:31) closed out the scoring.
 
The Bronco men went one through four and had a sixth-place finish for 16 points. Nathan Kipyego had a personal 5K best of 15:57.6 and he edged out teammate Hillary Toroitich at the tape. Derrick Kipchumba (15:57.7) almost cross the line in a three-way tie with his teammates. Abel Mengich was fourth in 16:55. Brian Kiptanui was the final scorer for the Broncos with his sixth-place finish in a time of 17:07.
 
Fayetteville State will compete in the Cedric Walker XC HBCU Challenge in Cary, NC next weekend at the SAS Soccer Park.
