Greensboro, NC – Six Fayetteville State Broncos surpassed the NCAA DII National Championship qualifying marks at the North Carolina A&T Track & Field Classic over the weekend. Eleven FSU student-athletes are currently listed as provisional qualifiers.
Before this weekend's meet,
Queen Burnett ran 11.81 seconds in the 100 meters at the Mount Olive Trojan Relays.
Domanique Knowles also made the list in Mount Olive with a clearance of 1.66 meters (5 feet and 5.25 inches) in the high jump.
Tracy Idugboe joined the list with a hop skip and a jump of 11.80m (38'8.75") in the triple jump.
Tiara Wilson exceeded the qualifying triple jump mark at the High Point Vertklasse meet with 11.68 meters (38'4").
The most notable NCAA qualifier for Fayetteville State is two-time Long Jump All-American S'Mrya Seward. At the Mount Olive Sixth Annual Adidas Trojan Challenge in March, Seward won the long jump event with a qualifying leap of 6.24 meters (20'5.75"). The mark has her ranked third overall in Division II.
After this weekend's meet,
Jessica McQueen now ranks 28
th out of 49 qualifiers following a fourth-place finish in the 400 meters (55.55 seconds) at the NC A&T Classic.
Teanna Bell finished ninth in the 200m to clip the 24.34 NCAA standard with a time of 24.32 seconds.
The 4x100 meter foursome of
Tramoni Myles,
Queen Burnett,
Jessica McQueen, and
Teanna Bell finished second behind host NC A&T with a provisional 46.71 seconds.
Other notable performances came from the 4x400m relay that also finished second behind the host in 3:52.41. The running members were McQueen, Burnett,
Sierrah Matthews, and
Tracy Idugboe.
Idugboe also finished third in the long jump with a leap of 18' 2.5".
Alexia Bryant threw the javelin 110 feet to finish fourth.
Repline Cheptoo placed sixth in the 800m (2:17.90) and seventh in the 1500m (4:52.92).
Micah Bernard finished sixth in the 100m hurdles finals and tenth in the 400m hurdles. She had a faster 100-meter hurdle preliminary time (15.71 seconds) by eight-hundredths of a second in the finals. She ran the 400 hurdles in 1:11.82.
Fayetteville State will compete at the 127
th running of the Penn Relay Carnival on April 27-29.
