SALISBURY, NC --The Fayetteville State men's basketball team fell to the Livingstone Blue Bears 67-65 on the road Thursday on Khyree Temple's buzzer-beating shot with only two seconds left in the game.
The Broncos (13-12, 8-5 CIAA, 4-3 Southern Division) had three players score in double figures, led by Tyler Foster, who had 17 points and four steals. Cress Worthy added 15 points and four assists and Kaleb Coleman helped out with 10 points.
Darryl Myers pulled down four offensive rebounds to lead the Fayetteville State offense which grabbed 10 boards and turned them into 10 second chance points.
The Fayetteville State defense held Livingstone (10-12, 6-7 CIAA, 3-4 Southern Division) shooters to just 38.7 percent from the field, including 17.6 percent from three-point range. The Broncos also kept Pharoah Lassiter to 4-of-15 shooting in the game.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 28-21 advantage, Fayetteville State went on an 8-0 run with 5:17 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Khalil Ridges, to increase its lead to 36-21. The Broncos then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 40-29 advantage. Fayetteville State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down six shots to account for 18 of its 40 points.
Fayetteville State kept its lead intact before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Coleman's jumper, to grow the lead to 48-33 with 17:42 to go in the contest. The Blue Bears then fought back to even things up at 62-62 and send the game to overtime. Fayetteville State took care of business in the paint, recording 12 of its 22 points in the lane.
Livingstone then edged ahead in overtime, leaving Fayetteville State behind 67-65 at the final buzzer.
