Fayetteville State shoots 40.9 percent from deep in 63-51 win against Winston-Salem

FAYETTEVILLE, NC --The Fayetteville State men's basketball team hit 9-of-22 attempts from 3-point range, shooting 40.9 percent from deep in a 63-51 victory over the Winston-Salem Rams at home Saturday.

The Broncos (14-12, 9-5) had three players score in double figures, led by Marcus Elliott, who had 15 points. Tyler Foster added 14 points and four steals and Cress Worthy helped out with 10 points and four assists.

Led by Sean Tony Hauser's four offensive rebounds, Fayetteville State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 14 boards that resulted in six second chance points.

Fayetteville State's defense held Winston-Salem to only 37 percent shooting from the field, including 26.1 percent from beyond the arc. The Rams did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with eight offensive rebounds and managed eight second chance points.

The Rams (16-7, 8-6) had two players score in double figures, led by Jaylon Gibson with 13 points and five rebounds. Isaac Parson followed with 10 points and one rebound.

How It Happened

After falling behind 7-3, Fayetteville State went on an 8-0 run with 17:01 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Worthy, to take an 11-7 lead. The Broncos then added six points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 26-16 advantage. Fayetteville State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down five shots to account for 15 of its 26 points.

Fayetteville State kept its lead intact before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Khalil Ridges' three, to grow the lead to 48-37 with 7:47 to go in the contest. The Broncos kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 63-51 win. Fayetteville State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 10 of its 37 total points.
