BOWIE, MD --The Fayetteville State men's basketball team kept Lock Haven (PA) to just 15.4 percent from 3-point range in a 2-for-13 shooting performance on the way to a 72-67 win against the Bald Eagles at A.C. Jordan Arena Saturday during the final day of the BSU Tip-off Classic.
The Broncos (1-1) had five players score in double figures, led by Tairell Fletcher, who had 17 points. Kaleb Coleman tacked on 13 points and two steals and Caleb Simmons helped out with 11 points, nine rebounds and two steals.
Fayetteville State out-rebounded Lock Haven (PA) 34-27 in Saturday's game, led by Simmons' nine boards. The Broncos also pulled down 12 offensive rebounds and scored 16 second chance points.
Fayetteville State's defense held Lock Haven (PA) to only 15.4 percent shooting from beyond the arc. The Bald Eagles did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with nine offensive rebounds and managed 11 second chance points.
How It Happened
After falling behind 7-6, Fayetteville State went on a 10-0 run with 12:45 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from D'Marco Baucum, to take a 16-7 lead. The Broncos then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 33-26 advantage. Fayetteville State capitalized on 10 Lock Haven (PA) turnovers in the period, turning them into 10 points on the other end of the floor.
The Broncos then held on for the victory in the second half. Fayetteville State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 14 of its 39 total points.
