Broncos earn 3-set sweep over Claflin

FAYETTEVILLE, NC --The Fayetteville State volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-17, 25-17) against the Claflin Panthers Monday at home at Felton J Capel Arena.

The conference victory improved Fayetteville State's record to 15-12 overall and 12-3 in CIAA play. Claflin is now 9-10 overall and 5-9 in the conference.

Chiara Vittoni finished with 11 kills on the day to lead the Broncos attack. Nikole Akamine also pitched in with seven in the contest. Defensively, the Broncos had two players reach double figures in digs as Aliyah Brown had 15 and Akamine had 12.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Broncos won the first point and never looked back to secure the first set 25-19. Fayetteville State opened up its biggest lead, six points, to close out the set. Fayetteville State also supplemented their offense with five aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | Fayetteville State built on a set-one win by securing a 25-17 victory in set two. The Broncos never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 in a set that showcased four lead changes before Fayetteville State took over the lead.

SET 3 | Fayetteville State took set three to sweep the match. The Broncos led from the first point on in the set to secure a 25-17 victory. Fayetteville State ended on a high note, claiming its biggest lead, eight points, to finish off the set. The Fayetteville State offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

The Broncos will host Johnson C. Smith on Thursday, November 2 at 6 p.m.
