Imani Elliott's 19 Points Leads Fayetteville State over Saint Augustine's 76-53

RALEIGH, NC --The Fayetteville State women's basketball team kept Saint Augustine's to just 16.7 percent from beyond the arc in a 2-for-12 shooting performance on the way to a 76-53 win against the Falcons on the road Saturday.

The Broncos (13-6 overall, 9-2 CIAA, 4-1 South) had four players score in double figures, led by Imani Elliott, who had 19 points, four assists and two steals. Aniylah Bryant added 17 points, four assists and four steals and Amina Miles chipped in as well with 13 points off of the bench.

Saint Augustine's (6-12, 2-8, 1-4) was led by Taniyah Greene, who had 14 points and six rebounds, and Lauren Banks, who finished with 13 points five boards.

Fayetteville State shared the ball well in Saturday's game, racking up 20 assists on 28 made field goals. Individually, Rasheka Simmons dished out the most for the Broncos with five assists and Keayna McLaughlin also chipped in with four assists of her own.

The Fayetteville State defense held Saint Augustine's shooters to only 32.2 percent from the field, including 16.7 percent from three-point range.

How It Happened

After falling behind 6-4, Fayetteville State went on a 7-0 run with 6:15 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from McLaughlin, to take an 11-6 lead. Saint Augustine's then responded to tie things up at 13-13 heading into the second quarter. Fayetteville State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 13 points.

The Broncos proceeded to outscore the Falcons 21-13 in the second quarter to take a 34-26 halftime lead.

Fayetteville State wasted no time building on its lead, going on an 11-0 run to expand its lead further to 45-26 with 7:31 to go in the third. Before the third period was over, the Broncos added nine points to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 67-39 edge. Fayetteville State knocked down seven three-pointers in the quarter to score 21 of its 33 total points.

The Broncos then held on for the victory in the fourth quarter.
