Seward Named the CIAA’s Indoor Food Lion Field Athlete of the Week

M'Smrya SewardFayetteville State's M'Smrya Seward was announced the Food Lion Women's Field Athlete of the Week by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) today following the Broncos' performance at the Marlin Invitational in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Shea Seward won the triple jump event with a mark of 11.95m (39' 2.5"), which provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Division II Nationals. The senior from Youngstown, NC also qualified in the long jump with a leap of 6.10m (20' 0.25"), the third-longest Division II long jump performance of the season. Her hop-skip-jump of 11.95m leads the CIAA this season.

Seward was a dual-sport student-athlete at Fayetteville State when she played shortstop for the softball team.  She earned NCAA DII All-American status last May when she jumped a career-best 6.22 meters (20'5") for second place at the Outdoor National Championships.

At the CIAA Outdoor Championships last year, M'Smrya won the long jump (5.84m) and finished second in the triple with a marking of 11.65m. During the Indoor season, she was fourth in the triple jump (11.22m) and sixth in the long (5.40m).

Fayetteville State University will compete in the Christopher Newport University Vince Brown Invitational in Newport News, Va. this weekend
