FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Fayetteville State's Devin Cowan was named the CIAA Food Lion's Defensive Lineman of the Week after Fayetteville State kicked off their football season with a historical 15-13 victory over UNC Pembroke.
Cowan, a junior studying business administration, tallied two solo tackles, four assists (tied for the team-high with six total tackles), and one quarterback hurry in FSU's first win of the season. Two of his assisted sacks came down the wire in the fourth quarter, helping the Broncos seal their come-from-behind victory.
The 6-3, 230lbs defensive end was recognized before the season as a member of the Preseason All-CIAA Team.
After graduation from Gray's Creek High School (Fayetteville, NC), Devin enrolled at UNC Pembroke where he redshirted his freshman year. In 2019, he played in nine games for the Braves and collected a total of 22 tackles; three for a loss of five yards and a sack for a loss of a yard.
With 10 games played so far at Fayetteville State, Cowan has 35 tackles with 4.5 sacks for a loss of 37 yards.
Fayetteville State will return to action on Saturday, September 10 at home in the Luther "Nick" Jeralds Stadium against Wingate University. Kickoff is at 7 pm.
