BOWIE, MD --The Fayetteville State volleyball team needed only four sets (25-10, 25-20, 18-25, 25-22, 25-22) to knock off the Virginia State Trojans Saturday at McKeldin Gym in Bowie, MD at the CIAA Volleyball Round-up.

The win moved the Broncos' record to 5-7 overall and 4-0 in CIAA play. Virginia State is now 8-8 and 3-1 in the conference.

Kyra Webb finished with seven kills on the day to lead the Broncos attack. Defensively, FSU had two players reach double figures in digs as Jordan Johnson had 23 and Jaida Bynum had 12.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Broncos took control of the set-one lead at 3-2 and never trailed to win 25-10. Fayetteville State led by 15 points at 23-8 before finishing off the set. Fayetteville State also supplemented their offense with four aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | Fayetteville State continued to roll after a set-one win by securing a 25-20 victory in set number two. The Broncos never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 7-6 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Broncos took over the lead.

SET 3 | Fayetteville State saw its bid for a 3-0 win end when Virginia State took the third set. The Broncos lost a tough set 25-18. Fayetteville State trailed by as many as seven points as Virginia State grabbed the advantage for good at 15-14 in a set that was knotted up eight times before the Trojans took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 4 | Fayetteville State then responded to earn the match win with a 25-22 set-four victory. The Broncos survived a back-and-forth set to win in a stanza that featured four lead changes and was tied 13 times. Neither team was able to grab a lead larger than three points along the way.
