Charlotte, NC (September 19, 2022) - Fayetteville State's Elton Andrew (Salemburg, NC) was named Food Lion's Special Teams Player of the Week following their conference-opening win against Lincoln University (PA), 19-7.
The 2022 Pre-Season All-CIAA Kicker made the difference for the Broncos, kicking a flawless four-for-four from the field, aligning from 20, 21, 30, and 32 yards of distance.
"My teammates and my coaches do their part day in and day out, and I'm just glad that I could do mine when I am called, said Andrew. "It isn't possible without God, my stellar holder Jacob Young, my snapper Malachi Cord, and my line blocking for me."
With each team only tallying a touchdown each, Andrew, a Deputy Group Commander of the AFROTC Detachment 607, added the most crucial points for FSU within the second half with three of his four field goals.
"I see the ball going through the uprights in my mind on the way out to kick and then execute on that. Trusting my holder and my snapper takes a lot of mental stress off of me, and I am thankful for their consistency."
Last season the military technology major kicked 13-of-21 field goals and was 5-of-10 from 40 or more yards out. He posted his longest field goal of 37 yards on the season versus his previous university, UNC-Pembroke in their 15-13 win. His four makes against Lincoln (PA) tab a career-high tie.
Fayetteville State returns to action on Saturday, September 24 at home in the Luther "Nick" Jeralds Stadium against Virginia Union University for military appreciation. Kickoff is at 4 pm.
