FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- Fayetteville State fell 21-3 to Wingate at home Saturday night in the mist of a downpour.
Wingate improved to 2-0 on the season while the FSU dropped to 1-1 overall.
Avery McCall led all FSU rushers with 38 yards in the contest. Nique Martin hauled in two catches for 11 yards.
Anthon Binyard led the Fayetteville State defensive effort, totaling three tackles and one recovered fumble. Cedric Thomas added one recovered fumble and Khalid Martin had 10 tackles and one recovered fumble in the loss.
The Broncos won the turnover battle in Saturday's game, forcing three turnovers while coughing the ball up one time, with Fayetteville State turning those takeaways into three points.
Defensively, Fayetteville State held up fairly well against the Wingate offensive attack, holding the Bulldogs to 253 total yards.

Wingate took a 21-0 lead, but Fayetteville State got on the scoreboard with :44 left in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 21-3. Neither team scored again in the game.
