LINCOLN UNIV., PA -- Fayetteville State got on the scoreboard first and never trailed on the way to a 19-7 win against Lincoln (PA) Saturday night on the road at LU Athletics Stadium.
FSU improved to 2-1 on the year and 1-0 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play, while the LUPA fell to 1-2 and 0-1.
Preseason All-CIAA kicker Elton Andrew did not have the best start of his senior season, going 2-for-6 in the first two games of the season and having one kick blocked. After K'hari Lane connected with Davis Baros for 23 yards and the first score of the game, Andrew successfully made the extra point. Early in the second quarter (14:55), Elton nailed a 32-yard field goal to give FSU a 10-0 lead. In the second half, Elton Andrew would turn a hat trick with three made fields as the only points scored in the second half. The third quarter FG was for 21 yards and the two final stanza kicks were for 30 and 20 yards.
Mekhi Fenner paced the FSU rushing attack by accumulating 52 yards over the course of the game, averaging 6.5 yards per carry. Caden Davis also added 49 yards on the ground, averaging 4.5 yards per carry.
David Baros reeled in two catches for 43 yards and one score.
Shawn Robinson showed out for the Fayetteville State defense, collecting one recovered fumble. Shi Gaskin added three tackles and one recovered fumble and Kentrell Caldwell had ten tackles, two tackles for a loss, one sack, and one forced fumble in the win.
The Broncos won the turnover battle in Saturday's game, forcing two turnovers while coughing the ball up one time, with Fayetteville State turning those takeaways into seven points.
Fayetteville State's defense held up against Lincoln (PA)'s offense, allowing 330 total yards.
