Fayetteville State Predicted to Second Overall

Charlotte, NC – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Football Coaches Association, in conjunction with the Sports Information Directors Association, released the 2022 Predicted Order of Finish and Preseason All-CIAA Team. Fayetteville State University, the 2021 CIAA Runner-up, was predicted to win the Southern Division and finish second overall with three first-place votes. Four Broncos (Elton Andrew, Brandon Barnes-Brown, Devin Cowan, and K'hari Lane) were named to the Preseason All-CIAA Team by merit of last season's performances.

With two interceptions against Lincoln Pa., Brandon returned a pick-six for a 35-yard touchdown. The 2021 First Team All-CIAA member racked up a total of 23 tackles and had eight (8) pass breakups.

K'Hari Lane (a quarterback from Oglethorpe, GA) finished last season as an honoree on the All-CIAA Second Team. He threw for 2,204 yards with 21 touchdowns and had a passing efficiency of 168.70. In the game versus Wingate, Lane threw for a season-high 356 yards. He threw four (4) touchdowns against Johnson C. Smith.

Devin Cowan (a defensive end from Fayetteville, NC) was voted onto the Preseason All-CIAA team. Cowan finished 2021 with a total of 29 tackles (12 solo and 17 assisted tackles). He had ten (10) tackles for a loss of 56 yards and three-and-a-half sacks for 31 yards. For the season, Cowan accumulated six (6) quarterback hurries and one forced fumble. Devin's biggest game of the season was against Winston-Salem State, where he had six tackles for which two were for a loss of 15 yards. His sack pushed the Rams back ten yards. He also had a season-high three quarterback hurries.

The Fayetteville State University football program is set to report for official team activities on August 1. The Broncos' season opener is September 3rd against the Braves of UNC Pembroke at 7 pm in the Luther "Nick" Jeralds Stadium.
