New Orleans -- National Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2022 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field season were announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Fayetteville State University's Head Coach Inez Turner was named the Women's Atlantic Region Coach of the Year.
Coach Turner led the Fayetteville State Broncos to their second consecutive Women's CIAA Indoor Track and Field Championship title in the program's three years of existence.
Returning strong after a pause in competition due to the pandemic, at this year's indoor meet, the Broncos captured the podium 32 points ahead of their competition with 155 points. A total of eight member institutions competed with Winston-Salem State finishing as runner-up (132) and Virginia State in third place (66.)
FSU had two student-athletes earn CIAA Indoor Championships' MVP achievements. Mya Jackson received Most Valuable Women's Track Athlete after seizing first place in the 60-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash. Jade Jordan earned victories in triple and long jumps for the Women's MVP for field events.
Jordan competed in the NCAA DII National Championships in the triple jump in Pittsburg, Kansas, where she finished 13th overall with a jump of 12.06 meters (39-6 ¾).
Inez Turner has made a huge impact by bringing the Fayetteville State track program back to life since taking over the role of Head Coach in 2017. In addition to the recent indoor titles, Coach Turner has led the Broncos to three consecutive CIAA Women's Cross-Country Championships in her first three seasons at the helm. The indoor program finished third in the conference in 2017 and the outdoor track and field program was runner-up in the same year.
Coach Turner received the USTFCCCA DII Indoor Atlantic Region Coach of Year Award in 2020.
Member coaches voted on these honors following the conclusion of the 2022 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships two weeks ago in Pittsburg, Kansas.
