Fayetteville State Athletics to Host Raymond McDougal Golf Tournament Fundraiser

Fayetteville State University was once considered the Mecca of golf within the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association behind the efforts of one person, Raymond McDougal. Under his guidance, the program won 16 conference championships, participated in seven NCAA Division II Super Regional Tournaments, and an NCAA National Championship.

In honor of Raymond McDougal's 44 years of service to the university, the Department of Athletics has named its annual golfing fundraiser the Raymond McDougal Golf Tournament.

"The family, we are thoroughly excited," said Raymond McDougal, Jr. on behalf of the McDougal family. "We are just elated about this golf tournament that honors my father and contributes to scholarships. We are particularly pleased to know that the Lucas family is also part of this partnership. We can't wait to do our part to help advance the golf tournament."

Lucas Moore Realty will be the title sponsor of the event. Owner Marva Lucas-Moore is part of three generations that have matriculated at Fayetteville State University. The 1993 alumna followed the steps of her father and led the way for her son, who played basketball for the Broncos.  Her niece is currently a student-athlete for the women's basketball program.

"This is a good opportunity for me to give back to the community to help provide scholarships to someone in my community," says Marva Lucas-Moore, owner of Lucas Moore Realty.

"I am big on supporting HBCU's! Funds go directly to benefit student-athletes that can't afford to go to school."

The 32-team field of foursomes will play on Saturday, April 30 at the King's Grant Golf and Country Club. The Captain's Choice format will have door prizes, mulligans, and a longest drive and closest to the pin contest. Awards will be given to first, second, and third-place finishers.

Funds raised will help provide Fayetteville State University student-athletes with a comprehensive athletic experience which includes quality education and the tools to be successful in the CIAA and on the NCAA national level.

Registration is $200 per golfer and $600 per foursome and onsite check-in will begin at 8 am. Range balls and breakfast will be provided until the 9:30 am shotgun start. An awards luncheon will follow the tournament.
