Fayetteville, NC (February 5, 2022) –
Jalen Seegars pumped in a game-high 24 points, but it was not enough to propel Fayetteville State (14-7 overall and 9-2 in the CIAA) past a 5-14 Johnson C. Smith in Capel Arena. The 62-56 loss comes as a shocker to Bronco fans as the Golden Bulls are only 2-9 in conference play and FSU was on a five-game win streak. Today's game was the first that allowed fans back into the arena since the holiday break.
Behind Seegars,
Darryl Myers had a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Cress Worthy had 17 points.
Johnson C. Smith held a 33-30 lead going into the halftime break. JCSU led by as many as ten (54-44) at the 7:37 mark of the second half but an 11-4 run by the Broncos set up the final two minutes of the game with a 58-55 score. In the next minute-and-a-half, FSU missed three field goals while the Golden Bulls made one of two.
Michael Roberson scored 17 points for Johnson C. Smith and was 5-of-7 in three-pointers. Augustine Ominu added 14 points while Todd Johnson netted 13.
The Broncos will host Bowie State on Monday at 4:00 pm. Free admission will be granted to all patrons that wear a mask (facial covering).
