Fayetteville, NC – Fayetteville State (12-9 overall and 9-4 CIAA) secured a 50-45 victory over Livingstone (5-17, 3-10) in Capel Arena by making 72.7% of its free throws in the fourth quarter. The Broncos made 3-of-6 in the final 18 seconds to increase its lead from 47-45 at the 1:22 mark.
Rasheka Simmons scored a game-high 20 points while
London Thompson pulled down 15 rebounds. Livingstone's highest scorer was Daijah Turner who made 14 points.
It was 38-38 with 7:22 left in the game and three minutes later Fayetteville State was holding onto a five-point lead. Livingstone cut that lead down to one (42-43) with less than three minutes left until after two field goals and the Broncos 68% free throw shooting for the game sealed the victory.
FSU led 28-20 at the half but struggled after intermission with only four points scored in the third quarter; less than what Livingstone scored in the second quarter (six points). The Broncos bounced back with an 18-11 final quarter.
Fayetteville State will travel to Winston-Salem State on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip off in the C.E. Gaines Center.
