Winston-Salem, NC (Saturday, February 12, 2022) -- Winston-Salem State orchestrated a 14-2 run in the second quarter for a 16-point lead (40-26) to set the tone for a 73-56 victory over Fayetteville State in the C.E. Gaines Center in Winston-Salem. With the loss, the Broncos, who have a better 9-5 conference record than WSSU's 7-7, share identical 5-3 divisional records.
Aniylah Bryant led the effort with 15 points and six rebounds while
Rasheka Simmons and
Keayna McLaughlin finished with ten each.
FSU shot 36.2% from the field (21-58) and made 8 of 17 free throws (47.1%) for the game. WSSU was 46.2% (30-65) in field goals and 57.1% in free throws (8-14).
Winston-Salem State out-rebounded FSU 46-31 and scored 23 points from 22 offensive boards. The Broncos had nine second-chance points from 15. The Rams had an astonishing 23 assists. Two shy from their season record of 25 against Shaw.
Kendra Ross led the game with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds for WSSU. Melody Prichard added 12 points and Brooke Spaulding chipped in ten.
Fayetteville State will host Claflin University Wednesday evening in Capel Arena.
Danica Lucas, the Broncos' only senior will be honored on Senior Night.
