Clemson, SC – Fayetteville State University opened the 2022-23 indoor track & field season with eight top-ten performances at the Clemson Opener in Clemson, South Carolina over the weekend.
Senior Ashley Taylor may have had the best performance for the Broncos with a third-place finish in the shot put. Her first throw of 39' 2.25" (11.94 meters). Nyelah Hakim finished tenth with a heave of 8.23 meters (27' 0").
Repline Cheptoo had strong finishes in the 800 meters and the mile. The freshman finished fourth in the mile with a time of 5:35 and seventh the 800 in 2:27.46.
The FSU distance squad, who captured the 2022 CIAA Cross Country title, continues to run in a pack. Brenda Cheboi was on Cheptoo's steps in the mile with a 5
th-place finish in 5:41.87 and in the 800 with a tenth-place time of 2:34.91.
Aaliyah Saunders had a time of 6:16.60 in the mile for an eighth-place finish. She was 12
th in the 800 at 2:49.46.
Sierrah Matthews had a time of 1:43.79 in the 600 meters for tenth place.
The 4x400m relay squad of
Teanna Bell,
Queen Burnett, Sierrah Matthews, and
Jessica McQueen finished seventh overall in 4:03.02.
The Clemson event was the last of the 2022 calendar year. Fayetteville State will return to action after the winter break on Saturday, January 14 at the JDL Mondo Collegiate Invitational in Winston-Salem, NC.
